The [community profile] dearsanta grand reveal has now taken place, and I can finally reveal that I wrote Triosome for [personal profile] zeldaophelia - A PG-13 Neville/Ginny/Luna and Seamus/Parvati/Lavender fic set in the first term of the Deathly Hallows. Zelda's prompt was "Harry Potter: Neville/Ginny/Luna, everyone thinks we're doing it (preferably in a 'the epilogue didn't happen' AU)", and considering the total lack of inspiration I had for so very, very long on it, it turned out okay. I really do have to say a big, big thank you to [personal profile] significantowl and [profile] hiddenhibiscus for listening to my wibbles, pointing me in a right direction and for beta-reading. Also thank you to [personal profile] slowfox for beta-reading as well :-)

And I now know that it was [profile] alchymie who wrote Salvage Operation for me (though I suspected!) - Thank you so much!

Apparently the American military powers that be are tracking Santa Claus' exact location! Have a look here:

:-)

And if case I don't get online later on or tomorrow, I'd like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the very, very best for 2010 (and I say "Twenty-ten")

The petrol prices at the supermarket fuel station nearest to where I live seem to be going up daily at the moment. On Monday it was 101.9p per litre for basic unleaded. Yesterday morning on the way to work I noticed it had gone up to 102.9p. And this morning it was 103.9p per litre*. Hope it doesn't continue that trend...

*Today's price equates to a price of £4.72 per UK gallon

So it seems I have until the end of the week until my DW paid account - which was kindly donated to me via [personal profile] yvi - expires. I do agree with the principle of paying for a service you appreciate (and particularly one that isn't bombarding you with advertising otherwise), but this is the first time in that time I've actually used a paid account feature here at DW, and I don't think I can just up and leave LJ just yet - there are too many people I am friends with over there who aren't (yet) over here, and I want to keep my Scrapbook intact as well, and I can't do that to my satisfaction without a paid account there. So what to do?

Poll #1468 Just because

Should I get a paid account here on DW as well as on LJ?

Yes, definitely, and I'll tell you why...

No, why pay for two?

When I first joined LJ, back in the days when you need to either pay or have an invite code to do so, it was a much smaller, friendlier and less obviously commercial place than it is now. It's certainly lost that feel, which I lament, and I do appreciate that about DW. But LJ has so much of my history and my current links still. Am torn :-/

I went ahead and ordered Heroes Season 3 on Friday, which is released today, and I duly got an email on Saturday to say that Play.com had posted it. So I'm hopeful that it'll be there waiting when I get home :-D

I also recorded and watched the first episode of True Blood last week, despite not having read any of the books. I'll be interested to see what [personal profile] slowfox makes of it when he eventually sees it, to see how it compares.

Anyone else been watching Trinity? Terribly bad portrayal of UK university/college life - totally unrealistic - but somehow intriguing (and raunchy) enough to be watchable.

Going home now.

It's the DearSanta deadline imminently for the usual, low pressure fic/art exchange. It's small, multi-fandom (though all participants must be willing to write/draw in a common fandom - Harry Potter - to help with matching people up with a secret Santa) and for writers only has a minimum of 500 words. The deadline is today, I think, but I'm sure anyone signing up in the next 24 hours will be welcome.

All the details are here:

http://community.livejournal.com/dearsanta/profile

And this year it's running on Dreamwidth too!!!!

http://dearsanta.dreamwidth.org/profile

Needless to say, I've signed up again this year, even though I'll probably stress a lot about the lack of writing time. But the reason I do so is that it's a friendly exchange, challenges me to write - last year's was the first time I wrote a non-HP fic (nearly). And I've generally loved what others have written for me in the past:

2008/09: Revisions (Harry/Padma)

2007/08: Practical Experience (Harry/Parvati/Kingsley genfic)

2006/07: Twenty-Four (Ron/Padma PG-13)

2005/06: The Haunting of Malfoy Manor (Harry/Parvati NC-17)

2004/05: Fireworks (Harry/Parvati NC-17)

2003/04: Midwinter Waking (Harry/Cho)

Also 2003/04: Grant Me One Wish (Neville/Luna PG-13) - I *really* liked this one!

There seems to be a bit of a pattern emerging there, doesn't there - I do give a list of quite wide-ranging requests, honest...

There you go, DearSanta has been running for at least 6 years already. Will you join in the 7th?

Not much progress on the book-reading front over recent months - I've just been way too busy to read anything. But here's the year to date as it stands:

Books Read in 2009:

1. Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse - Rick Riordan
2. Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth - Rick Riordan
3. Monk's Hood - Ellis Peters
4. Percy Jackson: The Demi-God Files - Rick Riordan
5. Raven's Gate - Anthony Horowitz
6. Evil Star - Anthony Horowitz
7. Nightrise - Anthony Horowitz
8. Necropolis - Anthony Horowitz
9. The Joshua Files: Ice Shock - M G Harris
10. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - J K Rowling

I don't *think* I read anything else completely between 9 (which I finished in May) and 10 (courtesy of [personal profile] slowfox's chapter a day re-read), but I could be wrong. And at least the total for the year is in double figures again.

If you run Windows and use Firefox as your browser, I'd advise you to go and read this post here, as it explains the negative effect of a recent Windows update on the security of using a Firefox browser.

It does seem that Microsoft are being rather underhand here...

Two things of note have happened so far today:

* Firstly, I am as of today the mother of two teenagers - quite a scary thought!

* I got to work this morning to find the resignation of my best payroller slipped under my office door :-( Fortunately she's giving us plenty of notice and doesn't leave until the end of August, but still, it's a blow.

This is nice: I've actually got the laptop out after a good night's sleep and am lazing around in bed doing things like setting up this new Dreamwidth account. It seems quite a few of my LJ friends now have accounts here...

*goes to look around the site*
